ABOUT THE POSITION:

Effectively provides general events and grounds maintenance services for Lewis & Clark College as assigned under the auspices of Facilities Services within the financial resources available that will involve light to heavy physical effort.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responds to on-campus emergency facilities services and events calls as Essential Staff.

Safely operates all hand and power tools necessary to complete assigned tasks.

Other duties as assigned.

General Event Responsibilities

Perform weekend event setups and breakdown for various College events. – Fill in for Events when additional labor is needed or a team member is absent.

Maintains accurate records of materials, labor and equipment used on assigned tasks.

Coordinates with skilled tradesmen and assigned supervisors for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently.

Executes movement of campus furniture, appliances and equipment including removing and attaching items to walls using hand tools generally for dormitories.

Performs basic residential appliance function checks and repairs.

Moves, loads, unloads, and delivers heavy and bulky materials, supplies, and equipment by hand, dolly, pallet jack, forklift and other means.

Performs assembly and installation of requested furniture and campus equipment generally for dormitories.

General Grounds Maintenance Responsibilities Pruning plants for the purpose of cutting back from buildings, parking spaces, roads and sidewalks .

Mowing lawns by hand rotary or riding mower.

Basic string trimming.

Remove debris from hard tops (Parking Lots, Walking Paths, Side Walks & Stairs) and lawns.

Removal and recycling of trash found on grounds.

Other grounds maintenance practices that does not require expertise or specialized training.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High School diploma or equivalent

Able to maintain a valid driver’s license, meet the College vehicle insurance requirements, and pass the College’s Driver’s Safety Training Course Fork lift certification or ability to obtain with provided training Minimum of 3 years’ experience in general maintenance Must be able to read and understand directions, communicate effectively with diverse populations, complete assigned tasks with minimum amount of direction and supervision, and provide over-time and weekend work as required.

Requires the use of proper PPE to meet OSHA requirements, including but not limited to: negative pressure respirators, medical clearance, respirator fit testing, maintenance, protection, storage, and proper usage.

Requires meeting all applicable OSHA requirements per policy, procedures, and practices (such as but not limited to: lockout/tagout, ladder safety, fall protection, machine usage, forklift usage, confined spaces, hazardous communication, respiratory usage program, and other OSHA requirements applicable to the position.)

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Ability to use grounds equipment such as hand mower, riding mower, string trimmer, backpack blower, chain saw and other non-specialized equipment.

Basic knowledge of repair and maintenance practices and techniques Basic knowledge in working with blueprints and drawings Ability to perform the physical tasks required to carry out job responsibilities.

Ability to read and understand directions Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population Ability to complete the assigned tasks with minimum amount of supervision and direction Ability to provide over-time or weekend work as required.

Ability to maintain a valid Oregon driver’s license and meet College vehicle insurance requirements Strong customer service skills Strong interpersonal skills Basic computer proficiency, especially in email communication and the automated work order request system Ability to work on ladders and scaffolding.

WORK SCHEDULE:

Available to work weekends.

PAY RATE:

$24.74 per hour

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to work in a stooped, kneeling, crouched, or squatting position continuously.

Must be able to lift and carry a 50 pound weight repetitively over one-half hour periods.

Must be able to carry a 25 pound weight repetitively and continuously.

Must be able to effectively and safely manipulate the tools and equipment needed for assigned tasks.
