Chehalem Park & Recreation District is seeking a qualified Golf Course Superintendent for the Chehalem Glenn Golf Course facility in Newberg, Oregon. It features 6,836 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. Designed by William G. Robinson, the Chehalem golf course opened in 2005.
The Golf Course Superintendent will work alongside the Park Supervisor and be responsible for planning and implementation of the budget, development and implementation of agronomic plans, hiring, training, supervision, and execution of golf course maintenance; all while being constantly focused on providing quality playing conditions for the public.

At least a 2-year degree/certificate in related field preferred or equivalent experience, four years of course maintenance as an Assistant or Golf Course Superintendent. Thorough knowledge of turf management and agronomic practices in the Pacific Northwest. A working knowledge of golf construction principles, practices, methods and a thorough understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf.
Toro Lynx System experience preferred.
Ability to see Chehalem Glenn Golf Course as a part of the Chehalem Park & Recreation District.
Requires excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as a high degree of leadership qualities, problem solving and decision-making.
Requires current Oregon pesticide applicator license or ability to obtain within 90 days.
Requires knowledge of current federal, state and local laws, as well as, regulations affecting the management of the golf course operations – including employment, safety regulations and environment standards and laws.
Must be highly motivated, organized, and detail oriented.
Must be willing to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.

Develop and implement the annual maintenance budget and operating plan according to operating policies and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal laws, OSHA rules and regulations, relating to chemical and fertilizer storage and disposal, employee safety, public safety, etc.
• Manage employment activities for applicable staff members, including but not limited to, personnel recruitment and selection, performance evaluations, training, compensation, discipline, and termination, etc.
• Maintain accurate records pertaining to department activities including, but not limited to, labor schedules, course maintenance, equipment repair, safety meetings and activities, fertilizer and chemical applications and pest control practices. Assure the efficient and timely submission of all required operational, financial, budget, and related reports.
• Plan and implement staffing schedules to ensure quality standards are achieved
• Supervise and perform various maintenance duties to maintain the golf course in proper playing condition according to the maintenance standards.
• Supervise and participate in the maintenance and development of drainage, irrigation, pumping and water systems.
• Supervise all planting and care of turf on the golf course and grounds. Continue to develop and implement a sound fertilizer, aeration and Integrated Pest Management program for proper turf grass and plant care.
• Knowledge of equipment maintenance and repair operations.
• Monitor the purchase orders and receiving program to maintain proper inventories of supplies and ensure proper quantity and quality of all purchases.
• Maintain knowledge of current and projected industry developments through continuous attention to industry periodicals and participation in relevant trade associations and organizations.
• Must have excellent organizational, financial and communication skills and be able to interface with all facets of the Golf operation and the public.
• Works closely with, advises, and coordinates with the Golf Director on any issues related to golf course maintenance and to discuss activities, forecasts, goals, plans and customer input.
• Works closely with the Golf Director to operate the Golf Course in a fiscally responsible and professional manner.
• Perform other duties as appropriate.
