OFFICER CANDIDATES:

PRESIDENT: Scott Moffenbeier, Bend Country Club

Starting my 20th year as a Golf Course Superintendent (8th at Bend Golf Club), continuing to serve on the Board of Directors and give back to this great association that has helped me along my journey is of high priority. As a graduate of Oregon State University’s Turfgrass Management Program and working at 6 different golf courses throughout Oregon, I have had the opportunity to associate and work with many outstanding professionals in the industry, helping me grow as a superintendent.

My wife Cathi, daughters Macy (17) and Harper (15) keep me motivated and support the commitment that the golf course requires. Bend Golf Club has been a special place to work, providing many opportunities beyond just maintaining turf. Spending most of my career in Central Oregon has provided many friendships that have led to a tight knit group of superintendents that support each other beyond our profession.

Thank you for your consideration to serve again as President for the Oregon Chapter of the GCSAA and work with a very talented group. If re-elected, I plan to continue adding value to your membership and taking on the challenges that affect how we manage our courses. I hope the 2024 season is successful for you all and look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events.

VICE-PRESIDENT: Stephen Purdy, Willamette Valley Country Club

For the past 14 years I have had the privilege of working at Langdon Farms Golf Club, first as an assistant, and the last six years as superintendent.  Recently I took over as the superintendent of Willamette Valley CC. Over the past decade my wife Emily and I have welcomed four children- Ella, Charlotte, William, and Clara. We live on a family farm outside of Sublimity, OR. When I have free time, I enjoy getting the kids outside to play sports, spending time outdoors, and teaching them how to work.

Having four children under the age of ten has helped me gain patience and learn to approach every situation differently, which has helped in serving on the Board of Directors. Over the past four years I have gained experience and knowledge to hopefully better the association moving forward over my present term.

SECRETARY/TREASURER: Jason Dorn, Portland Golf Club

Dear OGCSA members,

Hi there, Jason Dorn of Portland Golf Club.

I was born and raised in the Minneapolis metro area of Minnesota and reside in Tigard with my wife Ellen. My Turfgrass career began on a course constructed on a hobby farm in my parent’s backyard, followed by a stop at Doral in Miami, graduated Penn State University two- year Program 2001, worked my up at Baltusrol Golf Cub in Springfield NJ from intern to Superintendent, and currently am Director of Grounds for Portland Golf Club.

Serving on the board is very rewarding and suggest running for everyone. We continue working towards increasing membership, the driving force behind OGCSA, while supporting turfgrass research. We are always looking for new partners and welcome new members.

All the best this upcoming season. Respectfully, Jason Dorn

AFFILIATE DIRECTOR CANDIDATES:

John Hassler, Turfstar Western

I was introduced to the game of golf at the age of 8. Growing up in the small town of Moalla, I got my start in the golf industry as a member of the range crew at Arrowhead Golf Club under the Clarizio family.  This led to a position on the grounds crew at Arrowhead during the next few summers where I learned irrigation basics, turf maintenance practices, and working as a team. After receiving my associate degree in Turf Management from Walla Walla Community College in 2003, I work for Pacific Sports Turf for one year before accepting the irrigation technician position with the PNW Toro distributor, Western Equipment, in June of 2004.

I now reside in Silverton Oregon with my wife Tiffany and three children Kade (14), Grayson (8), and Ashlynd (6). We all enjoy outdoor activities from sports, camping, boating or just hopping on the trampoline in the backyard. My wife Tiffany and I also enjoy performing live music on occasion.

As I have moved into a sales role for Turfstar/ Western over the past 20 years, service has always been my focus. I feel the OGCSA also plays a large role in providing an outlet for service to its members in the PNW and I have always wanted an opportunity to give back. Thank you for considering me for this opportunity to serve on the board of our local GCSAA Chapter.

Andrew Mattison, Mattison Turf Works

My name is Andrew Mattison. In 2023, I started Mattison Turf Works LLC. I was born and raised in Littleton, CO. I always enjoyed visiting the Pacific Northwest and especially the Oregon Coast. During a summer in college I worked at a golf course in Englewood, CO. Even though I wasn’t going to school for turf yet, I really enjoyed the experience. That inspired me to pursue a BS in Turfgrass Management from Colorado State University. After graduating, I spent over four years working at Pronghorn from 2012-2016. In 2016, I moved back to Colorado to work at the Glacier Club in Durango, where I was an intern in 2011. During the 2017 season, I became the superintendent overseeing the 36 hole property.

My wife, Lindsay, and I moved to Hillsboro in 2022. It has been great getting back to Oregon. Durango was a bit isolated, so it lacked the same camaraderie that I find in Oregon. It was also challenging to travel for industry events. There was always a part of me that missed Oregon. It has been wonderful getting to reconnect with everyone again. I would like to give back to the OGCSA, which has helped me connect with all of you. Thank you for your consideration.

Sean Watts, Simplot Turf & Horticulture

Like many in our industry, I grew up around golf and began working on golf courses at a young age with my first job being at Orchard Hills Country Club. This prompted me to pursue my degree from Washington State University in Turfgrass Management.  From there I had the opportunity to work at other great golf courses from Portland to Seattle as the Assistant Superintendent and eventually Superintendent.  After working on golf courses for about 23 years I shifted to the sales and consulting side of our industry.  I now serve as a territory sales manager for Simplot Turf and Horticulture covering Oregon and SW Washington.

I’ve been fortunate to live with my wife of 23 years in the town where I grew up in Washougal, WA.  We have raised two wonderful daughters who now attend WSU where my wife and I met. Luckily, my entire family enjoys golf and we are member at our local golf course.  In my free time I enjoy golfing, fishing, hunting, camping, and spending time with family.

I have served as a Director and Vice President of the OGCSA in the past and would like another chance to give back to our association.   I appreciate your consideration and look forward to seeing you all at our next event.
