Job Title: Golf Course Spray Technician / Assistant in Training (AIT)
Position Type: Full-Time, Hourly
Pay Rate: $24.00 – $30.00 per hour (Based on experience & qualifications)
Job Summary
Langdon Farms Golf Club is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented individual to join our Agronomy Team as a Spray Technician / Assistant in Training. This role is responsible for the precise application of fertilizers, pesticides, and growth regulators to maintain superior turf health across the entire golf course. As an “Assistant in Training,” this position offers a clear path toward professional development in golf course management, including training in crew supervision, irrigation troubleshooting, and agronomic planning.
Key Responsibilities
Chemical/Fertilizer Application: Safely and accurately mix and apply fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, and fertilizers to greens, tees, fairways, and roughs.
Calibration & Equipment Care: Calibrate spray rigs, hand-operated sprayers, and spreaders routinely to ensure precise application rates.
Documentation: Maintain detailed daily logs of chemical applications, including chemical name, EPA number, EPA number, wind speed, and weather conditions for regulatory compliance.
Course Scouting: Proactively monitor turfgrass conditions to identify pests, disease, or stress, reporting findings to the Superintendent.
AIT Duties (Training): Assist in leading small crews, managing irrigation repairs, performing moisture management (hand watering), and assisting with morning course setup.
Safety Adherence: Strict compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations regarding chemical handling, personal protective equipment (PPE), and storage.
Qualifications
Experience: 1-3 years of experience in golf course maintenance, with specific experience in chemical application preferred.
Licensure: Possession of (or ability to obtain within 90 days) a State Pesticide Applicator’s License.
Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Turfgrass certificate or degree is a plus.
Skills: Strong understanding of turfgrass science, machinery calibration, and safety protocols.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift over 50 lbs, work in extreme outdoor weather conditions (heat/cold/humidity), and stand/walk for long periods.
