OGA-OGCSA Superintendent Spotlight – October 2022

Paul Rozek of Widgi Creek Golf Club is featured in this month’s Superintendent Spotlight. He took over as superintendent for WCGC back in 2005.

Rozek spent his childhood living in Wisconsin and Tennessee before moving to Oregon in eighth grade. He has decades of experience in the industry that dates back to joining the grounds crew at Michelbook Country Club as a 16-year old. Rozek then earned a degree in Turf Management from Oregon State and never looked back.

Prior to joining Widgi Creek, he worked at several golf courses under the tutelage of Mark Wilson, Forrest Goodling, Russ Vandehey and Randy Schults. Rozek credits their mentorship for his success, specifically that of Wilson who encouraged him to pursue a degree from OSU.

He is known for liking a good sports flick, citing Rudy, Moneyball, 42 and Remember the Titans as his particular favorites.

Rozek enjoys visiting the Oregon Coast for rest and relaxation, listing that as his favorite place to be when he isn’t working or at home.

Like many of us, Rozek has a sweet tooth – declaring Skittles as his favorite candy and Lucky Charms as his favorite cereal.

In the few moments when he isn’t overseeing Widgi Creek’s turfgrass operation, Rozek’s hobby is enjoying his 56 Chevy 3200 truck (pictured)
