OFFICER CANDIDATES:

PRESIDENT: Stephen Purdy, Willamette Valley Country Club

For the past two years, I have had the privilege of serving as Superintendent at Willamette Valley Country Club. Prior to this role, I served as both Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent at Langdon Farms Golf Club. These experiences have provided me with a strong foundation in course management, team leadership, and operational planning.

My wife, Emily, are raising our four children—Ella, Charlotte, William, and Clara—on my family’s farm just outside Sublimity, Oregon. There, we emphasize the importance of hard work, responsibility, and an appreciation for the outdoors. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, staying active through sports, and exploring nature, particularly through hunting.

Raising four children under the age of thirteen and working with club members the past two years has strengthened my patience, adaptability, and ability to approach challenges with a fresh perspective. These qualities have translated directly into my service on the Board of Directors, where I strive to listen thoughtfully, adapt when needed, and contribute in a meaningful way. Over the past five years, I have gained valuable experience and insight that I believe will continue to benefit the association. I remain committed to supporting its mission and contributing to its continued growth.

VICE-PRESIDENT: Josh Loy, Stewart Meadows Golf Course

My name is Josh Loy, and I serve as Superintendent at Stewart Meadows Golf Course in Medford, where I’ve dedicated a significant portion of my career. My connection to golf began in my youth, and my professional experience now spans 33 years, starting as a teenager at Rogue Valley Country Club. This May marks my 31st year at Stewart Meadows, where I have worked in various roles within the golf operation throughout my career.

In addition to my role as Superintendent, I have recently taken on a more active role in overseeing all golf course operations, including the pro shop and café. This is very much a team effort, and I’m grateful to work alongside a dedicated group of individuals who contribute to the success of our facility. I have also expanded my expertise by obtaining a landscape contractor’s license, allowing me to manage both golf course maintenance and commercial landscaping projects for KOGAP Enterprises, Inc.

For the past six years, I’ve had the honor of serving on the OGCSA board—first as a Director, and then as Secretary/Treasurer. These roles have provided valuable insight into the organization and the challenges and opportunities facing our industry. I am now running for re-election as Vice-President, with a continued commitment to serving the OGCSA and its members. I believe my experience and perspective allow me to contribute meaningfully, and I remain dedicated to working hard on behalf of our membership.

Thank you for your support.

SECRETARY/TREASURER: Steven Beyer, Illahe Hills Country Club

Growing up on a small dairy farm outside of Silverton, Oregon, is where I learned most of the work ethics needed to succeed in the turf industry. Combining those values with an incredible education at Oregon State and great people to work with is how I made it to where I am today. I have been the Superintendent at Illahe Hills Country Club for the past 8 years with stops at Waverley CC, The Idaho Club, Chambers Bay, and Tualatin CC along the way. It is an honor to be part of the OGCSA and share in many of the relationships and friendships that are a direct result of a fantastic organization. I look forward to serving you as Secretary/Treasurer- GO BEAVS!

AFFILIATE DIRECTOR CANDIDATE: Sean Watts, Simplot Turf & Horticulture

Like many in our industry, I grew up around golf and began working on golf courses at a young age with my first job being at Orchard Hills Country Club. This prompted me to pursue my degree from Washington State University in Turfgrass Management. From there I had the opportunity to work at other great golf courses from Portland to Seattle as the Assistant Superintendent and eventually Superintendent. After working on golf courses for about 23 years I shifted to the sales and consulting side of our industry. I now serve as a territory sales manager for Simplot Turf and Horticulture covering Oregon and SW Washington.

I’ve been fortunate to live with my wife of 25 years in the town where I grew up in Washougal, WA. We have raised two wonderful daughters who have attended WSU where my wife Emily and I met. Our oldest, Ellie, graduated from WSU last year and enjoying her new career in environmental science. Our youngest, Eva, is currently a junior at WSU and pursuing a degree in animal science. Luckily, my entire family enjoys golf and we are members at our local golf course. In my free time I enjoy golfing, fishing, hunting, camping, and spending time with family.

I have served as a Director and Vice President of the OGCSA in the past and would like another chance to give back to our association. I appreciate your consideration and look forward to seeing you all at our next event.
