OGA-OGCSA Superintendent Spotlight – September 2022

Michael Wright of Riverside Golf and Country Club is featured in this month’s Superintendent Spotlight. He is in his first year as superintendent and has worked the last 15 years in the industry.

Wright got his start in golf course maintenance while pursuing a business degree in college. He answered a Craig’s List advertisement for work that included free golf and quickly found out he enjoyed the craft. At that moment Wright made the decision to pursue a second bachelor’s degree in Turfgrass Management.

Wright gives credit to Gordon Kiyokawa, the long-time Superintendent at Columbia Edgewater Country Club, as someone who showed him the ropes on a professional level.

Wright references GPS Sprayers, moisture meters and electric reels with improved control as ways technology is changing the industry.

Professional rally driver Ken Block pictured joins Fitzgerald, Shaq, Lebron James, Tiger Woods and Bubba Watson as Wright’s favorite athletes.

The Offspring and Metallica pictured are two of Wright’s favorite music groups. Metallica was inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2009.
