OGCSA-OGA Superintendent Spotlight – February 2023

In this month’s Superintendent Spotlight we feature Joseph Seevers of Sunriver Resort (Meadows and Woodlands). He’s been superintendent at Sunriver for seven years and worked in the industry for the last 22 years.

Seevers, who is originally from Sunriver, pursued a career in the golf industry because he was an avid golfer growing up. He originally wanted to be a teaching pro, but the move to becoming a superintendent was solidified after holding a greenkeeping role at Lost Tracks Golf Club and an irrigation tech position at Meadows.

A pair of mentors helped Seevers as a young professional in the golf world. Dave Roath was instrumental on the agronomy side while Ryan Wulff showed him the ropes on the business end.

He has a pair of holes-in-one – recording both in the same month. The first on No. 4 at Meadows (pictured). The second on No. 5 at Widgi Creek

Unlike many of his superintendent brethren who pull for the Oregon State Beavers, Seevers lists the Oregon Ducks as his favorite sports team.

He enjoys spending free time golfing, mountain biking, hiking, swimming, fishing, skiing and/or snowboarding to name a few activities.

Seevers’ favorite pro athlete is 18-time major championship winner Jack Nicklaus. The Golden Bear finished his career with 73 PGA Tour victories.

Excluding Sunriver Resort golf courses, his top three include: 1) Any of the Bandon Dunes courses, 2) Torrey Pines (pictured), 3) Makena.

Seevers’ favorite movie is The Hangover, the first installment in The Hangover trilogy, which debuted at the box office in 2009.
