April 4, 2025, an army of volunteers from OGCSA, WWGCSA, The Children’s Course, and American Lake Veterans Golf Course came together for the 6th Annual Joint Service Project—and what a day it was!
We lucked out with perfect weather, and with over 30 volunteers on site, we powered through a long list of projects in just four hours. It’s incredible what can be accomplished when the troops unite!
Here’s a snapshot of what was completed:
• Greens and tees aerified, sanded, and seeded
• 4,000 feet of irrigation wire laid, connecting 7 irrigation heads to a satellite box
• Countless scrub trees and limbs cut and removed
• Mass amounts of ivy and debris cleared throughout the course

A highlight of the day was presenting The Veterans with a commemorative wooden flag, thanking them for their service and their gracious donation of a much-needed Toro 3550 Fairway mower to The Children’s Course last year.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who showed up, pitched in, and made an impact. This project between our groups continues to be a highlight of the kickoff to the golf season every year.
We would like to recognize and extend a special thank you to the planning committee members: Steve Marshall (CEO, Children’s Course), Neil Franks (Superintendent, Children’s Course), (Bob Senseman, Retired Superintendent), Shane Hadwick (Superintendent, Orchard Hill Golf & CC), Brian Koffler (Superintendent, Waverley CC), John Hassler (North Star Turf & Irrigation).
Also, a huge shoutout to those that donated products and equipment that made many of our projects possible:
• North Star Turf & Irrigation
• Walrath Sand
• Wilbur Ellis Company
• Turf Star Western
• Veterans Golf Course
• Waverley CC
• Oswego Lake CC
• Gladstone Disposal
• gEvents
We look forward to continuing this tradition and hosting the 7th Annual Joint Service Project at the Veterans Course in 2026. Hope to see you there!
